This thesis examines Australia's diplomatic response to the 1956 Hungarian Revolution inside the United Nations (UN). It reveals that Australia played a substantial role in the UN's response to the crisis and demonstrates that contrary to scholarly opinion, the UN played a significant role in the Menzies Government's international outlook during the mid-1950s.
