This research has critically examined the processes and outcomes of dental practice legislation reform in Victoria, the other Australian states and internationally. The study has demonstrated the effects of professional interests and structural power in dental policy making and that alternative models of regulation for dental therapists and hygienists would allow wider utilisation of their skills, more effective use of public sector funding, increased access to dental care and a greater focus on preventive care.
