Beyond God the father : the metaphysical in a physical world

Using the novels of three contemporary Australian authors this thesis analyses the manner in which the metaphysical and transcendent are written in post-modern literature. The approach taken is deconstructive and depends heavily on the theoretical work of Jacques Derrida, Lucy Irigaray, Carl Jung and Frederich Nietzsche.
