Chemiluminescence is the emission of light from a chemical reaction, this enchanting phenomenon was utilised for the detection of commercially important pharmaceuticals including morphine and codeine. Additionally, the fundamental chemistry of these reactions was investigated to reveal, for the first time, the identity of the species responsible for the emission.
