Communicating Acute Postoperative Pain (CAPP): Clinically Significant Meanings Underpinning Numerical Ratings

This research provides preliminary evidence that the reliability and clinical utility of pain intensity rating scales can be enhanced by incorporating empirically-derived descriptors of pain quality and the emotional, social and physical impact of pain. The findings assist the procedure-specific assessment and management of post-surgical pain to improve care outcomes.
