Consumption and Distributional Implications of the Implementation of Value Added Taxes in India

This study investigates the effect of Value Added Tax on the consumption of necessary food and fuel items and on poverty of Indian households. The policy implications of increasing the consumption tax is an important factor in designing a pro-poor tax, in addition to broad macroeconomic factors like revenue productivity.
