Crip Worldbuilding: Representing Disability in Young Adult Speculative Fiction

thesis
posted on 2025-09-30, 06:20 authored by Kit Kavanagh-Ryan
This thesis examines representations of disability in speculative fiction for young adults published between 1987-2019. It considers worldbuilding in speculative fiction as a type of built environment to which medical, social, and relational models of disability may be applied. Close readings provide historical context for representations of disability and show the potential of speculative fiction to imagine crip futures.
