This study investigated the sources of variability in critical care nurses' haemodynamic decision making after cardiac surgery. Decision making was influenced by the interplay between patient complexity, nurses' experience, and the quality of decision support provided. The findings have implications for postoperative patient management and inform nurses' professional development and education.
