Dark Topographies: Young Adult Gothic Fiction and the Natural World

This thesis examined the effect of natural spaces in Gothic texts for young adults. The findings showed the effects varied and that spaces frequently represented in western literature negatively affected the development of selfhood. However, spaces associated with the bush and Indigenous Australia enabled agency and the development of selfhood for young adult subjects.<p></p>
