This study investigated the abrasion wear resistance of composites. Several composite design parameters (insert dimensions) were assessed in context of the size of the processed hard particles. Experimental and numerical methods were used. Particular composite designs fostered a change of the particle flow mechanisms (less severe) and decreased the wear by the order of a magnitude (benefit). Design principles for maximum wear resistance are important for the mining industry.
