This study investigated the physicochemical and electrochemical properties of novel ether-functionalised ionic liquids and organic ionic plastic crystals. The properties of these materials with lithium salts were also studied as non-flammable lithium-metal battery electrolytes. The most promising electrolytes were investigated in lithium-metal full-cell performance and outperformed current benchmark ionic liquid electrolytes.
