This work proposes a system to battle corrosion on carbon steel. Hybrid organic-inorganic coatings synthesized by the sol-gel method are proposed as an alternative to chromates. The main outcome of this work was the development of hybrid organic-inorganic coatings with active protection through the incorporation of corrosion inhibitors based on rare earth metal carboxylates.
