Digital mana: transforming the photograph into a site for making Māori customary art

Can new media technologies be combined with customary art techniques without damage or loss to indigenous customary art practices? Can digital photographic processes and production be allied with indigenous methods of making - not just conceptually or thematically, but to make the process of digital art making, in itself, indigenous?
