This thesis finds that the voter turnout rate in Bangladesh during the 1991-2008 period is higher in constituencies where level of economic activity is higher and immediate past members of the parliament belong to the ruling party. The voter turnout rate is lower in poverty-stricken constituencies. While political competition reduces vote shares of winners, political alliance increases the same. So, pre-election rainbow and jumbo alliances emerged in Bangladesh during that period.
