Reports on a participant observation study of music making in a band of the Australian Army Band Corps. Explores the process by which the world views of soldier-musicians are shaped as they participate in the military music tradition which acts as a powerful agent in the shaping of Australian patriotic traditions. The study is set in the disciplinary contexts of ethnomusicology and military sociology.
