Excavating the Power Politics of Heritage in Post-War Sri Lanka: Hegemonic Narratives and Resilient Minorities
This research looked at how the politicisation of heritage and archaeology impacts minority Muslims in post-war Sri Lanka. It used the lens of cultural hegemony and resilience to frame the entanglements of heritage, identity and belonging. The research found that minority Muslim communities use everyday places of heritage and cultural practices to create spaces for cultural expression, making it a significant element of community resilience-building when their identity and belonging to the state is challenged.
