With an increase in carbon dioxide in the atmosphere since the industrial revolution, there has been a focus in recent decades to reducing carbon dioxide in the atmosphere (I.C. Prentice et al.). Restored, functioning wetlands have the potential to generate value as natural climate solutions, or blue carbon offset projects (Friess et al., 2022).
