Exploring the pre-medical emergency team tier of rapid response systems

This study investigated the design and use of a hospital patient safety system called the pre-Medical Emergency Team review. Findings revealed policy-practice gaps arising from health professionals' discretionary decisions and system-based barriers to effective use. Nurses had a vital leadership role in remediating early clinical deterioration to promote patient safety.
