Exploring tropane alkaloid production in Australian Duboisia plantations

The medicinally important compound scopolamine (hyoscine) is produced via the cultivation of Duboisia, a native Australian trees. This study worked industry partners Alkaloids of Australia Pty Ltd to investigate how and why the Duboisia trees produce this compound. The findings improved the understanding of their cultivation practices and provided avenues by which scopolamine production can be improved.
