The research involved a review of epidemiological, toxicological, and exposure data, and an experimental program which investigated exposures in workshop, laboratory and workplace settings. Exposure was found to be highly variable and frequently in excess of health based standards. Options identified for the control of exposure included: optimisation of welding parameters; limitation of arc time; and isolation of the breathing zone of the welder from the contaminant plume.
