Extraction and characterization of silk sericin and its potential application

This study investigated a chemical free degumming method for silk fibres and sericin extraction. It demonstrated the effect of various factors on the gelation kinetics and rheological properties of sericin. The findings pointed the role of molecular weight, concentration, pH, temperature and time on the gelation and thermoreversibility of sericin.
