This study fabricated microfibrillated silk for the first time at a significant scale, without using toxic chemicals. It used top-down processing to exfoliate nanofibrils directly from native silk fibres adapting a combination of milling and homogenization approach. This approach is sustainable and findings facilitate use of nanofibrils in biomedical applications.
