Foucauldian analysis and 'the best interests of the child'

Uses the social theory of Michel Foucault to research the political meaning of 'the best interests of the child' from the treatment of 19th century Tasmanian Aborigines, to current child protection services. The result is an innovative practice that extends the familiar social work skill of empathy towards an expertise that includes postmodern thought.
