From the intergroup to the interpersonal: dehumanization within close and intimate relationships

This dissertation investigated the manifestation of dehumanization within intimate relationships. It charted the experience of hurt feelings, the development and psychometric evaluation of a dehumanization measure, and the occurrence of physical and emotional abuse. This research provides the first empirical evidence linking dehumanization to relationship processes and outcomes.
