Functional role of amyloid β42 in systemic glucose metabolism

thesis
posted on 2018-11-13, 00:00 authored by J Czeczor
This thesis dealt with the functional investigation of Amyloid beta (Ab) 42 and its role in whole body glucose homeostasis, a protein otherwise known from Alzheimer's Disease. This research presented novel data on Ab42 being secreted from diabetic mouse fat pads, linking obesity to increased systemic levels of Ab42. Additionally, Ab42 administration in mice caused cardiovascular events, i.e. morphological and functional changes. In a mouse knockout model where Ab42 was removed, mice presented with a strong phenotype associated with various metabolic disturbances, supporting a crucial role for Ab42 in whole body metabolism.
