Importance of assessing family dysfunction in conjunction with standardised measures when treating substance abuse

Family dysfunction has been implicated in a number of psychological disorders such as substance abuse, poor adult adjustment, depression, anxiety, and suicidal behaviour. The implications of assessing family dysfunction for the treatment of substance abuse is discussed and demonstrated in four case studies.
