MitchellResults of fauna and vegetation surveys conducted around Portland Aluminium smelter between 1979 and 2004 found small mammal abundance and diversity had declined and changes in vegetation communities were related to changes in fire patterns, vegetation fragmentation and weed invasion. Small mammal numbers were greater in nearby National Parks.
