Intentionally teaching or planning for play: Examining early childhood educators' science pedagogy

This study examined early childhood educators' perceptions of intentionally teaching science in play-based learning environments. When more complex and challenging provocations are created by educators, children have a greater opportunity to develop their higher-order thinking skills. Findings revealed that misinterpretations of the practice of intentional teaching impeded educators' science pedagogy.
