This thesis investigated the effects of pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapeutic approaches on skeletal muscle health and disease progression in a novel mouse model (rNLS8) of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). The findings concluded that exercise training, as non-pharmacological approach, has a beneficial effect on skeletal muscle health in rNLS8 mice. However, suppressing miR-23a, as pharmacological intervention, appears to accelerate the early phases of disease progression in rNLS8 mice.
