Investigation of the hydraulic characteristics of flow and air entrainment in stepped spillways with modified geometry

This study presented a novel design for the step configuration in the stepped spillway by using the experimental and mathematical methods. It showed the relationship between the flow characteristics and the step configuration. The results indicate the efficiency of the new step design in terms of energy dissipation and increase the aeration ratio with an improvement in other hydraulic characteristics for the flow over the stepped spillways.
