This thesis provides a greater understanding of the adequacy of iron intakes of Australian children aged 2-5 years. The findings describe three main patterns that characterise Australian pre-schooler diets and their associations with haem and non-haem iron intakes. The research also details the bioavailability of iron intakes across the day and for specific eating occasions and estimates the proportion of Australian pre-schoolers with absorbed iron below requirements. This is an important contribution in relation to dietary recommendations for younger and older pre-schoolers.
