This research investigated polyphony and polyvalency in the narrative practices of Gudanji people. It found that semiotic mechanisms not currently articulated in western discourse were critical to narrative methods which sustained connections between people, country and other entities which share the same physical environment. This research has identified and defined the practice of 'terraglossia' as a key component of sustained living with, on, in and through country.
