LewandowskiResults demonstrated that fat accumulation within the liver was not a primary defect in the aetiology and pathogenesis of obesity and typeII diabetes. Fat accumulating in the liver was not the result of changes in the gene expression of key enzymes and proteins involved in hepatic fat metabolism. Howeverchanges in the mRNA level of transcription factors PPAR[alpha] and SREBP-1C was associated with the development of diabetes and the gene expression of these two transcription factors was associated with changes in diabetic status.
