Lost Spaces of Popular Theatrical Entertainment, Ballarat Goldfields, 1850s - 1870s

By compiling and resurrecting the history of lost spaces of popular theatrical entertainment, this thesis uncovered immense socio-cultural change in Goldfields Ballarat, during the mid-Victorian era. Within a thirty-year period, the infamous rough and commercial theatre of the 1850s was ultimately replaced by civic, instructional and elite style entertainments.
