This thesis examined predictors of male barroom aggression quantitatively and the meanings of masculinity qualitatively. It found alcohol use to be the strongest predictor of barroom aggression, with amphetamine-type stimulants and personality traits also acting as greater risk factors than masculinity. Further, masculinity appears to have evolved in a contemporary Australian context, comprising more gender-neutral human qualities.
