Nanoparticle Therapeutics to Target Corneal Scarring, Haze, and Bacterial Keratitis

This study utilised the nanoparticle-based drug delivery system to treat corneal injuries. Iron-free bovine lactoferrin and dominant-negative survivin proteins were successfully loaded and subsequently released from mushroom chitosan nanoparticles. Benign protein-loaded nanoparticles demonstrated the ability to accelerate corneal wound healing, reduce corneal scarring/haze and prevent bacterial keratitis after corneal alkali burns.
