This study investigated the ways older white people living in rural Australia construct narratives about engaging with people from diverse backgrounds and Aboriginal people. It considered how whiteness shaped these narratives by focusing on notions of rurality, multiculturalism and Indigeneity. The findings point to the ways whiteness constrains possibilities for the emergence of conviviality in rural Australia.
