This research explored the production of low-cost carbon fiber from the textile-grade acrylic fiber. Through tests and comparison of properties of resulted fibers with different process parameters, the optimized manufacture conditions were acquired. This study successfully led to transforming waste textile acrylic fibre into carbon fibres by using dissolution in dimethyl sulphoxide followed by wet spinning, stabilisation and carbonisation.
