Organic Waste Processing Options for Local Government Authorities in Australia

Significant volumes of organic waste are disposed of in landfill by local government authorities (LGA’s) in Australia annually. Solutions representing greater resource utilisation are required to mitigate the negative environmental impacts associated with disposal to landfill. Several solutions exist for the recycling of organic waste at varying levels of maturity in the Australian market with composting representing the most common solution. However, the viability of these solutions for use specifically by Australian LGA’s has been subject to little academic scrutiny.
