This project focused on understanding the aggregation mechanism of graphene-based nanoadditives in lubricants and how using oil-miscible ionic liquids may improve the stability using experimental and MD simulation techniques. While ionic liquid improved the stability of the lubricant, aggregation of flakes via either solvent mediated association, van der Waal forces, hydrogen bonding, or bridging via IL was observed.
