This thesis has explored the factors contributing to the collapse of the DDR in South Sudan. It described the South Sudanese state as fragmented and violent, unable to monopolise the legitimate use of violence. Due to this disorder, the state and its authority remained irrelevant/absent outside main towns. That condition disincentivised ex-combatants and public commitment to the DDR.
