Practising gender : the production of identity by school children

Through fieldwork in Australian classrooms, the thesis provides insights into how children construct their identity and re-create the social order based on gender. It explores how children use the practices of gender for their own ends and illustrates how gender construction is negotiated and contested between girls and boys.
