Predicting the resistance of fired clay bricks to salt attack

Resistance to salt attack was determined by accelerated aging tests. Results were related to the porosity and hardness of fired clay bricks. An understanding of these relationships produced a new test method that accurately measures the hardness of the microstructure which is an indication of the resistance to salt attack.
