This study investigated the role of mucin 1 in the development of malaria-associated acute respiratory distress syndrome. Mucin 1 has an important role in maintaining inflammatory response. This is the first study to investigate the role of mucin 1 during malaria infections. This study showed that mucin 1 plays a role in reducing malaria-induced inflammation in lung cells.
