Self-Compassion for Children of Parents with Mental Illness: Theory and Practice

This research provides an understanding of self-compassion as experienced by children and adult-children of parents with mental illness. Analysis of participants' lived experiences revealed this group may relate to themselves in distinctly uncompassionate ways. The author offers suggestions for cultivating the multiple components of self-compassion in this population.
