Shape Optimisation of Flexible Roll Formed Complex Beams

This thesis developed a novel parametrisation technique, which can represent the sophisticated thin-walled beams and enable the use of the gradient-based optimisation algorithm. Several representative numerical results indicated that the proposed optimisation methodology can improve the performance of the beams, reduce the weight and maintain the manufacturability.
