This thesis demonstrated that sustained sleep restriction reduces the quality and quantity of resistance exercise performance and increases perceived training effort and fatigue. Sustained sleep restriction also disturbs hormonal and gene expression markers of muscle protein turnover and circadian regulation. These findings improve the prescription and monitoring of resistance exercise to optimise skeletal muscle health and performance.
