The Development of Potent, Broad Spectrum Norbornane-based Antibacterial Agents

This thesis is about the continued development of amphiphilic norbornane-based antibacterial agents. A range of compounds with acyl or alkyl substituted guanidines were synthesized to determine the effect of guanidine substitution on antibacterial activity. Compounds with branched chain or Z-alkene hydrophobic groups were also synthesized. All new compounds were evaluated for antibacterial activity and cytotoxicity.
