The Ideal America(n): Dwight Eisenhower's elusive search

This thesis investigates the idealism that defined Dwight Eisenhower's presidency and probes his attempt to (re)construct an idealised United States, led by an ideal president. Within the framework of superpower conflict, this re-evaluation will prompt a revision of Eisenhower's position in the Cold War and the American presidency.
