Adult literacy and basic education teachers have experienced a period of dramatic policy change in recent years; in particular, the introduction of competency-based assessment and competitive tendering for program funds. The focus of this study is 'discursive engagement'; how teachers are engaged by and are engaging with discourses of performativity. Two action research projects were undertaken to provide texts for analysis.
